OWL ART- NEW COLLAGE SHEET "INTO THE WOODS"

Owls are my absolute favorite bird.  I think it must be the round head and big eyes that draw me to them.  These art pieces showcase the images in my latest collage sheet.  All of the images on the piece above are from the new sheet.  As a further embellishment, I added sugared mini blooms and moss.  To keep the moss from falling apart I spray it with aerosol hairspray.  I suggest aerosol as the spray is finer than a pump spray.

The owl and rabbit are from the new sheet and the dark leaves are from my Falling Leaves collage sheet.  I coated the dead tree cut-outs and the leaves with Diamond Dust.  The snowflakes were cut from snowflake garland.  I stamped the background paper with a bare tree rubber stamp.

FALL ART

I started these two fall-themed pieces last year.  I kind of got stuck on how I wanted to finish them so I put them aside and moved on to Christmas art.

I used images of leaves and birds, leaf trim, sequin leaves, and beads to decorate the piece.  The door in the back is a rub-on transfer I made.  Also in the background is an image of a picture frame that I cut in half.  Most of the images for both of the pieces are from my collage sheets.

The green man at the top and border at the bottom are made of paper clay.  For the green man, I used a brass piece to make a mold.  For the bottom piece, I stamped the clay with a rubber stamp.

The music and tree in the background of this piece are again rub-on transfers that I made.  Click here for a tutorial on how to make your own rub-on transfers.

As embellishments, I used images of leaves a bird & squirrel, embossed oak leaves, leaf sequins, acrylic leaves, pine cones and a glitter texture mixture for sparkle.  The violin is a rub-on from my stash.

EDGAR ALLEN POE ART & WINNER OF THE HALLOWEEN 13th HOUR CLOCK

I’m wrapping up Halloween 2014 with another Edgar Allen Poe piece.  The background is made up of words from his books glued in strips to heavy cardstock.  I soaked the garland in diluted black acrylic paint to give it the dark look.

HOCUS POCUS INSPIRED BOOK APOTHECARY - VIDEO TUTORIAL

“Boooooook come home or make thyself known” cries Winnie in the movie Hocus Pocus.  This movie is a must-see for me every Halloween season.  It’s the only one of my spooky movies that I can get my husband to watch with me.  He loves the “I put a spell on you” scene when the Sanderson sisters sing.  You can tell by the eye on the book that this apothecary draws inspiration from the Hocus Pocus spellbook. 

Unlike the book in Hocus Pocus, which is filled with spells; this one opens to reveal an apothecary.

The book is constructed from two Tim Holtz Mini Configuration Books hinged together.

The texture and patina on the covers is achieved with tissue paper, stamped paper clay and Modern Masters Metal Effects Iron Paint and Rust Activator.  I've been working with these products for years, and love them so much, I rusted an entire wall in my house.

WHERE TO FIND MODERN MASTERS PRODUCTS

You can find Modern Masters products on Amazon.com, online paint stores, and some neighborhood paint shops.  Their products are easiest to find in the US & Canada.  For those in the UK, you can find them on Amazon.co.uk.  For other countries, the best thing is to Google the product name to see if anyone in your country carries it.

Notice how the middle of the book looks like pages - it’s really just an image, which you’ll find for download further down in this post.

By using two of the configuration books, you’ll have lots of room to display all kinds of cool bits and bobs.
